Sometimes the hardest part of making a big change is getting motivated. Generally, people tend to start their weight loss journey with a lot of enthusiasm and passion, but they lose it somewhere along the way. But Amanda Roberts, a 23-year-old, was determined to attain her ideal weight and did everything in her power to do so. Here is her powerful story that will surely motivate you for good.
Amanda Roberts had to fight with obesity all her life.
As a child, she had bad eating habits and would binge on sugar laden foods and carryout. When reality struck and she finally decided to do something about it, it was a little too late. She tried everything from workouts to fad diets and even some medical procedures. But nothing seemed to work. She, just like most of us, was having a hard time staying motivated. In 2014, she finally decided to go through a weight loss surgery. Thankfully, it worked and she lost about 150lbs (68 kilos) over a period of two years.
“Loose skin is a real thing that happens to a lot of people after extreme weight loss,” she wrote to her 33,000 followers.
Amanda, after her tremendous weight loss, was left with about 20lbs (9 kilos) of excess skin on her body. But rather than hiding like everybody else, she embraced it. The self-confessed ‘Loose Skin Queen’ came forward and started posting the pictures of her body on Instagram. The idea behind it was that she wanted others to celebrate their bodies and set an example for them.
‘If I “lose another 100lbs [45 kilos]” it will not make my loose skin disappear, I’d simply be an unhealthy 80lbs [36 kilos] person with even more loose skin,’ said Amanda.
Recently, she came up with a video and addressed some frequently asked questions about her excessive skin. She mentioned how she is often asked if it’s a fake stomach. She quoted, “I can’t wrap it in some magical foil or rub some cream on it and make it go away.” She further added that the sail is not always smooth. While some days the skin is her ‘favorite part of me’, sometimes it can be a little too much to deal with and hinders her daily chores.
“But no matter what I may feel from time to time, I remind myself that this is the only body I’ll have, and it’s so beyond important to let the positive days outweigh the negative,” added a proud Amanda.
She posted a picture a while ago that showed her daily struggles with her excessive skin. Though she loves it dearly and considers the excessive skin an important part of her, living with it can be difficult at times and the video unveiled just that. The video has received more than 25,000 views and about 200 comments in the space of just two days and her followers appreciated her for sharing her story.
“Because of the loose skin on my body, I am having a hard time with normal tasks like exercising, running, etc,” she wrote on her fundraising page.
Now, Amanda has started a Go Fund Me Page to get her excessive skin removed. So far she has reached $1,442 of her goal of $7,500. Unfortunately, due to some financial issues, she couldn’t afford to get it done before and a loan is also out of her reach. Through her Instagram, she is making efforts to normalize loose skin. She proudly said that earning a loose skin takes so much determination, time, and work and one should be proud of it and added, “It’s not gross, it’s not unattractive. It’s literally just skin.”
